Tower Hamlets Council has approved £143m to deliver the first phase of its mayor’s accelerated housing programme, which is targeting up to 3,300 new homes across 42 council-owned sites over the next five to 10 years. The initial phase will provide 351 homes across 10 sites, while each development in the wider programme will include at least 51% affordable housing by habitable room, including a significant proportion for social rent. The £143m funding will be offset by a £70m Greater London Authority grant, subject to securing funding from the mayor of London’s affordable homes programme, and £30.6m of right to buy receipts. Construction on some sites is expected to begin from late 2027. |
