Housing market showing signs of stability

Back to news

The UK housing market remained subdued in May, with buyer inquiries, sales and house prices all falling for a second consecutive month, according to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics). However, surveyors suggested conditions may be starting to stabilise, as the pace of decline showed no signs of worsening. Estate agents cited concerns over the Iran conflict, inflation, mortgage rates and domestic political uncertainty as factors weighing on demand. Sales are also taking longer to complete, reaching a record average of 21.5 weeks. While most agents expect prices and transactions to soften further over summer, sentiment is more positive over the longer term.
