UK house price growth slowed to 2% in the year to June, down from 3% in May, according to the Office for National Statistics. The average UK home was valued at £272,000, with annual growth of 1.8% in both England and Wales and 2.3% in Scotland. Northern Ireland recorded much stronger growth of 9.2%, taking the average price to £202,000. In England, the North West saw the strongest growth at 4.7%, while London prices fell 2.5%, marking a 10th consecutive month of annual declines in the capital. Inner London recorded the sharpest house price declines, led by Westminster, where the average price has fallen 25% from £1.15m to £854,000. Kensington and Chelsea has fallen 14.7% to £1.25m, Hammersmith and Fulham 13.3% to £726,000 and Tower Hamlets 13.1% to £457,000. |
