John Mulryan, chief executive of housebuilder Ballymore, has warned of an impending housing crisis in London. Despite a pipeline of 16,000 homes, the company is only constructing 1,000 annually, significantly below past rates. Mulryan cites high building costs and stricter planning regulations as key issues. He stated: "We are building less than 50% of what we were doing a decade ago." An 84% drop in private-sector house building since 2015 could lead to severe shortages by 2027. Mulryan calls for substantial policy reforms to make development viable again in London. |
