Property tax labelled “a very bad idea”

10th October 2014

Assem Allam, one of Labour’s top donors, has called Labour’s mansion tax a “very bad idea” and a “vote killer”, warning of its inevitable negative effect on house prices,

which would in result in significantly reduced stamp duty revenue. Elsewhere, Danny Alexander has backed proposals which would see London keep a significant proportion of property tax collected in the city. “He appears to understand there is a strong case and right now it feels like the time is right,” said Caroline Pidgeon, leader of the Lib Dem London Assembly Group.
