UK house prices up 9.9% since April 2013

House prices across the UK rose by an average of 9.9% in April compared with 12 months earlier. The Office for National Statistics reported that the typical price of a house is now £260,000, up £22,000 in the year and £72,000 in six years

London prices increased 18.7%, but even excluding the capital and the south east of England, prices were 6.3% up on a year ago. In London, the value of an average property has risen to £485,000, fast approaching the 4% stamp duty banding, and around 14 times the size of a regular pay packet.
